Pup shelters are also known as dog tents and provided the bare minimum shelter for sleeping troops. Each soldier carried one half of a tent (shelter-half) along with poles, ropes, etc and when buttoned to another soldier's shelter-half they create a simple two-man tent although a single shelter-half could be used as a one man shelter against sun or wind.
